When my group and I started playing Mutants & Masterminds, one of the first things we did was create homage characters using our favorite DC/Marvel characters for ideas.  I never got around to making the one I really wanted to since I was mostly the GM.  So now I'm kicking around an idea to create a Green Lantern-esque character.  

Quite a few of my other characters are homages.(Mostly my villains)  "The Protozoan" is an homage to the marvel character "Venom".  Just as the duo of "The Last Laugh & Cherry Bomb" are an homage to "The Joker & Harley Quinn".
